We, as people, have become accustomed to a life full of practicalities, consumption and shortcuts. But we know (or care) little about the irreversible implications our behaviors have on our planet and our health.

How might we help people develop awareness on the damage of using everyday products unsustainably?

// QUESTION

We aimed to provide awareness on the global effects the products we consume everyday by engaging the user through an interactive and visually appealing platform, raising curiosity through concise and evocative visual language and by providing clear and relevant data about each item's effects throughout its life cycle.

// SOLUTION

// PROBLEM

CONTEXT

We identified a real lack of awareness and education on the impact our behaviors have on the planet and on our lives. Part of the impact is caused by the daily use of disposable household products.

SUMMARY

Brand identity and 3D wall sculpture for a restaurant and organic market in Belleville, Paris

We, as people, have become accustomed to a life full of practicalities, consumption and shortcuts. But we know (or care) little about the irreversible implications our behaviors have on our planet and our health.

How might we help people develop awareness on the damage of using everyday products unsustainably?

We mapped the everyday objects that are most harmful to the environment, and most commonly used by conducting interviews with the people around us and doing a broader analysis in academic literature. We created a structured system for the object information page based on the objects’ life cycles and impacts.

RESEARCH

IDEATION

It was important for us to define an aesthetic visual identity in order to give the user a thought-provoking impact on the platform. We tried a number of directions, finally, through trial and error, we reached the desired result.

We felt that the goals of our project were achieved. After presenting the platform to various people, we received the feedback that the project was indeed both informative and visually resonant. Another important feature of the project is the visual timeline. It is an aesthetically powerful addition, enabling the user to scroll sideways to get a glimpse of the objects’ decompositions, both on the index main page and on the object page. Although the timeline wasn’t a planned feature, it was a component we developed along the way, that enriched and deepened the message, interaction and identity of the project.
